Overview

Karna is seeking an experienced Public Health Communications Specialist with expertise in current and innovative social media practices and analytics to provide specialized communication support by developing communication materials for CDC social media formats related to population health and well-being, Alzheimer’s and Healthy Aging and Workplace health.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, conduct, and evaluate media events, draft media relations materials and arrange communication of health related messages.
  • Provide editorial and writing of public health research findings.
  • Ability to write in a plain language style for the general public and for public health practitioners.
  • Format materials for electronic and print media.
  • Assist with clearance of materials through e-clearance and serve as a consultant for staff members on the branch clearance process.
  • Support coordination of award submissions for the branch.
  • Assist with fact-sheets, briefing materials, marketing materials, posters, display and program branding items.
  • Provide social media support and technical assistance by developing communication for CDC social media formats.
  • Knowledgeable about current and innovative social media practices and analytics such as videos, blogs, and social media posts in order to enhance communication effectiveness.
  • Write, edit, and review talking points and other written or spoken materials concerning CDC programs to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree, preferably an MPH or MA with a background in public health, and writing and editing
  • Minimum 7 years of related experience to include:
    • Developing a variety of written materials for both internal and external stakeholders
    • Creating compelling materials on health topics
    • Working with both scientific and non-scientific audiences
  • Fully Spanish-English bi-lingual to include reading, writing, and translating preferred 
  • MS Office, SharePoint skills, PowerPoint, Prezi, Social Media, and Clear Communication training
  • Ability to convey detailed information, both orally and in writing, using a variety of formats
  • Ability to gather and report public reaction to information programs, draw appropriate conclusions and offer meaningful recommendations in improving aspects of information materials
  • Previous CDC experience preferred
  • Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate clearance
