  • Overview

    Karna is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer for a part-time position. The candidate will utilize best practices and technical modalities to design, development, and maintain of a wide variety of learning experiences for comprehensive cross-cutting violence prevention programs, strategies, and approaches.


    *this part-time position is contingent upon contract award*



    • Collaborate with clients, subject matter experts, and team members to perform needs assessments to identify critical knowledge, skills, and behaviors; produce gap analyses; and recommend appropriate learning strategies and solutions to achieve desired learning outcomes
    • Provide instructional expertise to support trainers, team members, and SME’s in the creation and implementation of instructionally sound training programs and materials, including developing learning objectives, course outlines, learning activities, job aids, and reference materials for in person and online delivery
    • Manage violence prevention training development, create development schedules, and facilitate technical assistance (TA) plan design sessions with various stakeholders, subject matter experts, and contracted multi-media production specialists
    • Ensure compliance with clients' guidelines and accepted Instructional Systems Design methods and adult learning theory
    • Design and develop violence prevention instructional, training, and TA products, tools, and materials for onsite and/or remote administration, e-learning/Web-based training, instructor-led and self-paced learning modalities
    • Develop learning solutions in multiple formats, including web-based courses or trainings, videos, interactive tools, webinars and eclearance ready manuscript drafts and conference presentations
    • Create, develop, and maintain user documentation including style guide, user guides, online help, static and/or interactive websites, quick guides, and other formats
    • Monitor and respond to instructor and recipient feedback to improve training materials and ensure their timeliness and applicability
    • Develop needs assessments to facilitate the adoption and successful implementation of violence prevention strategies and approaches for program evaluation guidance and TA
    • Prepare, write, and edit TA feedback reports that describe the results of completed TA events
    • Provide recommendations for future TA content and sustainability of knowledge
    • Familiar with ISD Frameworks such as the ADDIE model.


    • M.A. /M.Sc. /M.Ed. in Instructional Design, Adult Education, Distance Learning, or related field. A BA/BSc in the same field can be substituted for the Masters if accompanied by 8+ years of Professional Instructional Design work
    • Minimum 5 years of proven experience as an Instructional Designer with learning products designed for TA and training, development, and stand-up delivery in a project-based environment
    • 4 years of experience working with subject matter experts, clients, and graphic artists
    • Demonstrated knowledge in producing interactive in-person and online courses incorporating adult learning principles
    • Experience designing products that are Section 508 compliant.
    • Experience developing results frameworks, logical/conceptual frameworks, or similar tools for project design
    • Experience creating online help tools using Captivate, Storyline, or other comparable applications
    • Strong skills with Creative Cloud tools (Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Acrobat, etc.)
    • Experience designing products that are Section 508 compliant, specifically WCAG 2.0
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and SharePoint
    • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, written, communication and collaboration skills
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision making capabilities
    • Availability to travel about 20% of the time
    • Previous CDC experience preferred
