  • Overview

    The Technical Writer/Editor will provide technical writing support (e.g., write, rewrite, edit, etc.) to research, training and technical assistance (TA) implementation, and evaluation activities related to cross-cutting violence prevention guidance programs, strategies, and approaches at CDC.  

     

    *This part time position is contingent upon contract award*

    Responsibilities

    • Writing a variety of technical articles, reports, brochures, user guides, training materials, manuals, and other technical documentation for a wide range of uses by applying word processing, graphics and audio visual communications techniques for technical or scientific subject matter.
    • Writes, rewrites, and/or edits documentation, communication and reference materials used for a variety of purposes.
    • Work with subject-matter experts and team to ensure that written product communicates information in a clear, appropriate, and applicable manner.
    • Advises client in the planning and organizing of information, visual presentations or graphic illustrations.
    • Provides a high degree of quality assurance by reading documents objectively and closely for structure, coherence, logic, tone, and style and ensuring end products meet client expectations.
    • Maintains production schedules and budgets and coordinates department activities.

    Qualifications

    • Experience in a research setting with a variety of scientific and research concepts, practices, and procedures.
    • For information technology writing, desire experience with planning, developing, maintaining, rewriting, and producing computer software/systems related documentation including tailoring style and readability to user requirements.
    • Ability to write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences
    • Must have strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Must possess solid organizational and detail-orientated expertise and the ability to handle numerous projects at one time. 
    • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Communications or technical field.
    • 2- years of experience as a writer/editor of technical publications.
