  • Overview

    Karna is working to staff an opening in support of the World Trade Center Health Program, a CDC (Centers for Disease Control & Prevention) / NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health) contract. This employee would serve as the program expert on medical coding issues.



    • Leads the medical code change control process
      • Conducts research on ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes to determine if they are appropriate for coverage under the World Trade Center Health Program
      • Researches and documents quarterly and annual code terminations, including a crosswalk to new and replacement codes
      • Provides formal recommendations to the client on a weekly basis
      • Develops weekly Change Requests to add new medical codes to the Codebook and claims adjudication system
      • Maintains program documentation
      • Uses the following applications: SharePoint, Access, Excel
    • Develops new policies and procedures based on medical research
    • Serves as the liaison to the Nationwide Provider Network contractor, LHI, for all coding and claims issues
    • Coordinates review of requests for prior authorization of dental, transportation, home health and lung transplant services
    • Gains the confidence of the client and Karna staff and builds strong relationships
    • Participates in work groups and delivers formal presentations to the client and Karna staff


    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Five to ten years of work experience in business and/or information technology fields
    • Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
    • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
    • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Access
    • Knowledge of SharePoint preferred
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Ability to work in a team and independently
