    Karna is seeking a part-time, temporary Health IT Subject Matter Expert (senior-level)  to support The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), Division of Health Care Statistics, Ambulatory and Hospital Care Statistics Branch, located in Hyattsville, Maryland. 


    As the nation’s principal health statistics agency, NCHS’ mission is to compile and publish accurate, relevant, and timely statistical information to guide actions and policies that improve the health of the American people. The Ambulatory and Hospital Care Statistics Branch conducts nationally representative surveys of hospital inpatient, emergency, and outpatient departments; ambulatory surgery centers; and office-based physicians. These surveys collect data about clinicians and organizations, and their patients, and about management of patients’ conditions. Policymakers and researchers use these data to analyze patterns in management of specific conditions, quality of care and disparities among populations, and the effects of policy change.  The Health IT SME shall provide excellent guidance and direction in the attainment of test data at the January 2019 Integrating the Health Care Enterprise (IHE) Connectathon. IHE Connectathon is a cross-vendor, live, supervised and structured testing event where industry leaders test implementations of IHE Profiles to advance health IT interoperability.  The Health IT SME will guide and facilitate  collaboration at IHE Connectathon and assist in the publication of the Health Level Seven International (HL7) Implementation Guide for CDA Release 2:  -  US Realm as a normative standard.


    • Support for vendor recruitment.
    • Incorporation of the HL7 CDA® R2 Implementation Guide: National Health Care Surveys Release 1.
    • DSTU Release 1.2 - US Realm testing incorporation support for venue process, tests, incorporation of tests in testing tool.
    • Conducting tests, coordination support of the project at Connectathon with Connectathon leadership.
    • Support for vendor profile implementation preparation for Connectathon and planning meetings with the Division of Health Care Statistics (DHCS) to assist in  successful attainment of test data.



    • Master’s degree or higher in computer science or related field.
    • Minimum 7-10 years of related experience
    •  Expertise with the following:
      • Test plans for ONC 2015 Edition Certification Criteria.
      • Health informatics interoperability standards.
      • Health care privacy, section and interoperability survive solutions for technology vendors.
      • Standards development
