    The VP, Medical Affairs position is a corporate officer position within Karna, LLC – a wholly-owned subsidiary of BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina. The position is both a leadership position as well as requiring subject matter expertise in the areas of public health, population health management (PHM), and healthcare.  The role is client-facing, requiring phone and in-person interactions with potential and current commercial clients to create solutions and offer Karna services which address their strategic challenges and goals. As a member of the leadership team, the successful candidate will be responsible for executive oversight of a growing portfolio of Karna’s population health management work with commercial customers including maintaining working relationships with client executives and ensuring high customer satisfaction.  Specific responsibilities include:


    • Executive oversight of Karna’s PHM Division including marketing, sales, contracts, and project execution.
    • Medical and scientific guidance and consultation to (potential or current) clients, the PHM sales team, and the project team(s).
    • Strategic direction and planning including working with a financial analyst and Karna’s accounting staff to develop and track budgets and profitability.
    • Providing clinical and/or management consulting subject matter expertise on specific projects as a billable resource, ideally in a limited fashion.
    • Networking (i.e., developing relationships) with the client’s executive level personnel and other Karna partner company executives.
    • Assessing client and project risk and mitigate on an ongoing basis.
    • Driving new account acquisition through developing and implementing target account strategies.
    • Managing a portfolio of projects to meet or exceed margin forecasts.
    • Avoiding any conflicts of interest with Karna’s parent company or other organizations within the BCBS-SC family of companies.
    • Developing professional networks through association memberships, speaking and writing engagements and community activities.


    • At least 5 years of experience as a senior executive (Director or higher) leading a health-focused organization.
    • At least 15 years of experience in the health industry (healthcare and/or public health).
    • Master’s degree (or higher) required; Medical degree preferred.
    • Superior communication skills, including experience developing and presenting technical and/or sales material
