Overview

In consultation with CDC MMWR staff, the Visual Information Specialist will format publication layout, including creating and editing graphics, figures, tables, and boxes for regularly scheduled and ad-hoc MMWR reports at the CDC. She/he will ensure 508 compliance of reports and work with leadership and other stakeholders, ensuring daily/weekly deadlines are met.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the process of self and others in making unformatted Word documents visually appealing by using Adobe InDesign to incorporate spacing, headings, colors, and graphics for a variety of large complex documents
  • Manage formatting requirements, including 508 accessibility, and ensure compliance for client submission
  • Use and create templates and styles for reports, data, citations, etc.
  • Proof and edit the work of others for submission to the client
  • Edit and incorporate high-end graphics into documentation
  • Oversee the tracking of multiple document processing progress, taking on a high volume of work
  • Prepare, format, and other desktop-publishing related requirements (page orientation/limits; attachment requirements; tabulation) and ensure compliance with all requirements
  • Serve as main point of contact with the client, providing strategic and tactical guidance and attending meetings
  • Perform quality checks and reviews
  • Publication deadlines require some work outside of normal business hours

 

Qualifications

  • AA/AS or BA/BS Degree, Master’s a plus; 3 years additional experience accepted in lieu of degree
  • Minimum of 15 years working with production of printed materials (documentation, proposals, etc.)
  • At least 10 years working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro)
  • Advanced knowledge and use of Microsoft Office products
  • Knowledge of and experience with Section 508 compliance activities required
  • Proof of extensive portfolio of past accomplishments and work
  • Experience with scientific or public health publications strongly preferred
  • Background investigation required
  • Remote candidates will be considered, based on experience
