Overview

The Safety and Occupational Health Specialist will be responsible for overseeing safety and occupational health aspects of a contract providing general warehousing services, maintenance and repair of containers, biomedical equipment, and civil engineering equipment (CEE), and production of Deployable Medical Systems (DEPMEDS) at The Navy Expeditionary Medical Support Command (NEMSCOM). The role involves developing, enforcing, and ensuring compliance with a written safety and occupational health plan, in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, develop, coordinate, and evaluate a comprehensive Safety and Occupational Health program.
  • Advise staff on program management, accident prevention, safety education, accident investigation, reporting, and compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act).
  • Continuous program involvement for both military and civilian personnel.
  • Evaluate safety program efforts, standards, rules, SOPs, and work techniques.
  • Provide technical assistance on work-related problems and compliance with Army and OSHA standards.
  • Monitor work areas, investigate hazardous conditions, and develop corrective actions.
  • Conduct safety audits/surveys, analyze accident data, and develop safety reports.
  • Develop and conduct safety training for military/civilian personnel.

Qualifications

  • Degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields, or related field with at least 24 semester hours of relevant coursework. OR
  • Specialized Experience: Equipped with knowledge, skills, and abilities typically in or related to the position.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and training design, teaching, and instruction.
  • Familiarity with relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies for security operations.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Health Physicist (CHP) is preferred.
